Wistful Uist

Uist would still like to be someone's herdsire this fall. He wanted me to mention, that his Daddy, Wintertime B.o.B took Grand Champion in the rooed fleece category under the British judges at the Wisconsin Sheep and Wool festival this past weekend with his shepherd Karen Valley and that he could make some fine fleeced babies for you too!

His fleece is consistent from neck to britch and is super soft and fine. He is a single coated Shetland ram with a modified moorit fleece. He has beautiful striped horns that are clearing his head nicely.

We won't be keeping him intact for long, so if there aren't any takers he will be banded soon and be a sweet fiber wether. We are asking $200 or best offer for him intact. He is NASSA registerable.

He is too cute for his own good!

Scatach's Forever Home

This morning I had an email from DJ saying she had settled on Long John Silver (impeccable timing!)...and this afternoon I received a phone call from a neighbor and friend saying she heard we may have a kitten that needed a home. Her young daughter's 17 year old cat wandered away a few days ago and didn't come home and she was hoping a kitten would ease the pain a bit.

And while "Checkers" won't replace their lost old kitty, she will keep a little girls heart warm.

We will get to see her grow up too! Checkers/Scatty will only live five miles away.

Big smiles all the way around.

Milk Sucking Parasites

I am amazed that Snickers is still letting the kittens nurse.  It looks so bizarre to have five largish kittens nursing on her!  They are 10 weeks old now and ready to be weaned.

The kids decided to keep Sulu (the calico licking her chops), Billy Bones (the orange tabby) & Spotty Spock (or DLB- Dirty Little Bastard, so named by Will). 

Kittens to find homes for include:

Scathach, aka. Scatty

and Long John Silver.

Both are beautiful kittens and are very playful.  They also seem to stick together oddly enough!  Silver is going to be a big Tom cat while I think Scathach is going to be on the smaller side like her mother.

DJ gets first pick if she wants either; then the greater universe has the option to choose.  :)

Today I am making an appointment to have Snickers "fixed"....she is yowling around the house searching for a way to escape and get herself into another muddle.

Double the Dazzle's Cria

Dazzle's cria arrived on Monday....a sweet little male who is the richest shade of brown...not sure if he is a dark fawn or a light brown at this point!

He probably should be named Radagast because he is going to stay brown, while Creme's cria seems to be lightening up to a pale fawn color. 

 They aren't used to their names and aren't yet registered so we may change it!

He has  beautiful dark eyes.

Fiona is in the barn having contractions so I'm expecting her cria to show up soon...

I hope it is a girl!  So far we are at a 3:1 male to female ratio.

Exercise in Agony

Getting three children to agree on which kittens to keep is just that. I'm getting anxious to make decisions so we can find good homes for those we aren't keeping. Lila was in tears over this because she doesn't want to choose favorites fearing somehow the kittens will feel unloved. I tried to explain it wasn't a matter of loving one more than another and that we would ensure they all had good homes.....sigh. Duncan is lobbying hard for his choice pointing out what a good lap cat she will be and commenting continuously on her cuteness. Sam just gives us his big sad eyed puppy look. We will be keeping two or three I think. The parental units have avoided making this hard and fast decision but it has to be made soon.

Can you blame us with faces like these? They are almost as heart wrenching as the kids faces as they are begging "please, please....can't we keep them all?" (No is the answer just in case you are going to encourage that!)

Aaa argh!

They are totally in the "I'll chew your leg off and trash your house" mode right now! Surfaces once littered with papers and books are swept clean by the morning and they chewed open a bag of rice and scattered it all over the floor like a crazy slip n slide. They enjoy walking on the cross beams 8 feet above the floor and walking on the outside of the banisters along the stairs....they are making me a nervous wreck. Uncle Ginger seems to be enjoying wrestling with his new charges and Snickers seems okay with that.

Beyond Strange

I found this egg in the chicken coop yesterday. It is a "normal" egg that is encased by a much larger and brittle shell and surrounded by albumen/egg white. You never know what delights await you in the coop!
