The fruits from the weekends labors:</div>
<div style="border-image: none;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSzuAQXXXmIbuYF_HYcwgFqgT7b5q1gFXTpVzbsvEZna9Ls2ESQx-m25b0NuEtHZBQWhewJfryoOvqOSiKP6AFvB67VO40ed5jYlwSblyDWPhEMQdg7j-Nb0HC0ZOMmpsX7bxVCoG-gZ0f/s1600/silk+hankies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSzuAQXXXmIbuYF_HYcwgFqgT7b5q1gFXTpVzbsvEZna9Ls2ESQx-m25b0NuEtHZBQWhewJfryoOvqOSiKP6AFvB67VO40ed5jYlwSblyDWPhEMQdg7j-Nb0HC0ZOMmpsX7bxVCoG-gZ0f/s640/silk+hankies.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="border-image: none;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-image: none;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-image: none; text-align: center;">
Hand dyed silk hankies; these are a very labor intensive dye project. The hankies are weighed out into half ounce stacks and then need to be soaked for a good long time to be saturated. In order to "speed" the process I added a bit of Synthrapol (a wetting agent). Next day they were wrung out and then unfolded into a stainless steel pan and each stack dribbled and massaged with dye and then steamed in the microwave for two minutes. I generally do a minimum of two stacks of the same colors because you have to clean up between colors. They always end up incredibly vibrant and intense! They are a lot of work but very pretty in the end.</div>
<div style="border-image: none;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZiR3_t6Igobxcb4N223lp7zL4YoSf8C1vTl5tnEHIvCKgQOv1Fst8chM2Ab_GawaifdehtCDJWaJbW1lVWCI1c1Jk-jnGQfLnjZYBJWUnIzK0ImU9TYwPxG3D06SF6vjnDxiEBFlf-AmP/s1600/IMG_2834.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZiR3_t6Igobxcb4N223lp7zL4YoSf8C1vTl5tnEHIvCKgQOv1Fst8chM2Ab_GawaifdehtCDJWaJbW1lVWCI1c1Jk-jnGQfLnjZYBJWUnIzK0ImU9TYwPxG3D06SF6vjnDxiEBFlf-AmP/s640/IMG_2834.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="border-image: none;">
<br /></div>
<br /><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I also dyed 19 skeins of sport weight Polwarth and Silk (85:15), and 8 skeins of worsted weight Polwarth and Silk (60:40). Duncan and Lila both helped out here; Duncan did the vibrant blues on the right bottom, and Lila the purple/salmon skeins on the upper right. There are a couple skeins missing that were in the dye-pot at the time of the photo that are a lovely plum color. This yarn was a mixture of hand painting and kettle dyed. All of this yarn and the silk hankies will be going down with Lila and I to the <a href="http://www.lambandwoolfestival.com/" target="_blank">Northern Michigan Lamb and Wool Festival</a> at the end of the month. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Join us there if you can! :)</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The annual First Day of School Photo.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I do not know where the summer went this year it seemed to have sped by. It wasn't because we went on many exotic trips, or many trips at all for that matter. It was just full of the everyday events that continue on relentlessly....get up at 5:00-ish, have a cuppa, feed animals, exercise (maybe), take a shower, off to work, stop at the store on the way home, make dinner, check on the animals, have a grown-up beverage, watch some (Castle, Grimm, Warehouse 13 etc...) while knitting or spinning, gather in the cats, read (a few paragraphs or pages before the book hits the floor), sleep. Then the whole thing starts up again (if one is fortunate). It seems rather monotonous, but goes by quickly. This is my way of saying I haven't really had much to say all summer because nothing has changed much! Sorry to be so out of touch.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
There were many small things that we did; Lila was in "Follywood", Uncle Johnny visited, Grandma visited, and some cousins came by (all in the same week mind you....), Duncan played baseball, D & Sam played soccer. Lila worked cleaning cabins this summer and earned about $1,000; 90% of which she put into her savings and college account. Sam taught us how to play Dungeons and Dragons, and Duncan is teaching us how to play Texas Hold'em poker (where did HE learn to play it?). Duncan went to Copper Harbor with his cousins and Lila attended Author Quest (i.e. writing camp) again; this year as a "counselor in training". We tended the garden and are busy making jam, blanching and freezing veggies, and making tomato sauce and dilly beans. Will has been peddling veggies, wool and knit goods at the Curtis Farmer's Market on Wednesdays, we participated in the giant puppet show at Art on the Lake once again. I've been doing a fair bit of knitting which has been fun- lots of baby hats and fingerless mitts.</div>

I had almost two years worth of fiber to deal with, as I only had about 10 fleeces made into roving last year. It took me a couple of weekends and several days off to pick through all of the alpaca fiber and skirt the sheep fleeces and Lila and I drove them down to East Jordon to be made into roving, combed top, and yarn. Hopefully the roving will be done in the next couple of weeks; the yarn will be a few more months. It was a LOT of fiber! all of the alpaca is being made into yarn this year as I still have some roving left from the last batch. It will be exciting to have yarn from our own animals that I don't have to spin first. Not that I don't like spinning, but it is much harder to start an impromptu project. I saved a few very nice batches of Suri that I will send off to a mill in Ohio that will spin 100% Suri fingering yarn; that will take about 10 months to get back but will be worth the wait I think.</div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: left;">
The animals are doing well, though I have a few old sheep (they are 12 years old) who are starting to look their age. My favorite- Fancy, though I'm not supposed to have one, is among them. The alpacas are down the road on their summer pasture.</div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: left;">
Northern Michigan Lamb and Wool Festival is the last weekend in September and Lila and I will be vending again. I've been dying yarn (polworth and silk primarily), and will finish that up this weekend along with dying some silk hankies. I'm also knitting some long elbow length fingerless gloves that are cabled and are black- those are for me; a treat to wear to NML&WF if I get them finished! I've been knitting while "watching" TV and our living room is very dimly lit- I've had to use a flashlight knitting that black yarn which has elicited some laughter from the rest of the crew. I will post pictures of the lovely yarn after it dries.</div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: left;">
We went to the Michigan Renaissance Festival three weekends ago and had a great time, though were rained out after a few hours. We will go back next saturday and hopefully I can get some pictures. Lila had dressed up in a dress she made which fit the period and bought some cute little satyr horns which fit the outfit perfectly. This time the boys are going to go all steampunk.</div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: left;">
School seems to be going well these first few days. Duncan is still playing Baritone sax, Sam loves his classes, and Lila has art finally as an elective. She will be dangerous with some formal training. ;) First Advanced Placement class in History so more homework this year as well. Glee has started and hockey won't be far behind, and then it will be the holidays....man!</div>

I am not going to try to explain or apologize for being such a poor blogger. I will try to catch you up instead. :) This is going to be rather kid-centric cause that's what's been going on- mostly.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-image: none; text-align: center;">
Back in October, Lila came to her father and I and said "I want to play Hockey". After the first "huh?" and shock of the statement, Lila was being hauled off by Will to learn to play hockey and SKATE in Manistique. Yes, that is correct. She had to learn to skate first. I will be the first person to point out that I never, ever, would be brave enough to do this. Lila started out skating with a "chair" but soon outgrew it and improved every practice...and then the games started! The Manistique Wildcats is an all ages (up to 19) all girl team that plays other girls teams in the upper peninsula and northern lower peninsula. Practices 2x a week and games most weekends. The furthest we had to travel was to Alpena in the northern lower, and Houghton in the UP. They were fun games and we all enjoyed them, except for the minor concussion Lila suffered in Game 2 which was a fun experience all in itself and happened on my Birthday! I think the major trauma suffered was having to remove the cartilage piercing for the CT scan (they were easy to get back in). By the time the season was over, Lila was in good skating form and making passes and taking goal shots. We are really proud of her and she wants to play again next season.</div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
While hockey was going on two nights a week and weekends, there was also Glee which involved three productions and a coffeehouse fundraiser night. Glee practices were on Sunday. A big group of Lila's friends were in Glee and it was the largest number of kids in the history of the club.</div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRsf6HJWBY5W9LQVTpGYNdZ0yS05uIgI57js_rTVljdk-6zvvW8ii1Ni1U2d6XF_uTFgiMoX2b5D1iMheZl5da-RK2BO9GmBU6RnGYOP3Q6iX5gcwfGSoPQcoRKcD0y0YEWMQ4AVyP6IEb/s1600/MHS+Glee+club.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="204" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRsf6HJWBY5W9LQVTpGYNdZ0yS05uIgI57js_rTVljdk-6zvvW8ii1Ni1U2d6XF_uTFgiMoX2b5D1iMheZl5da-RK2BO9GmBU6RnGYOP3Q6iX5gcwfGSoPQcoRKcD0y0YEWMQ4AVyP6IEb/s320/MHS+Glee+club.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
(the freshman are on the ground and Lila is all the way to the left)</div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
The performances were wonderfully staged and the music varied from contemporary to Franky Vally.</div>

For the coffeehouse performance, the kids were allowed to sing in small groups or as solo's. Lila chose to do a duo of the Eurythmics "Sweet Dreams are Made of These" with a senior.</div>

After a minor kerfuffle she blew the crowd away. We still have people telling us how much the enjoyed her performance. I'm not at all proud....</div>

Did I mention that the <u>other</u> nights of the week were devoted to Drama Club? "<em>Letters to Sala</em>" was the play and Lila had a large part for a first time production and everyone did an amazing job for the amount of dialogue and the seriousness of the subject matter.</div>

Lila's buddy Kendra was one of Sala's workcamp friends from the 1940's and Lila played one of Sala's grand-daughters set in 1990's NYC. All timeframes were on the set at once which was really interesting.</div>

After the drama production was over, both Duncan and Sam joined middle school drama. They practiced a couple of days a week after school and culminated in a series of short vignettes about Fractured Fairy Tales that landed the mis-behavers in court. Both Duncan and Sam were in the "Little Boy Blue" skit. Duncan played Little Boy Blue, and Sam was the farmer who was wronged. It was damn hilarious! I have a few pictures, but they are not where I am. This is due to the fact that in January, instead of erasing my old phone, I erased my NEW phone. </div>

Duncan, who is in sixth grade, is also in band. He started out playing Alto Sax, but was talked into trying the Baritone Sax. We've been to two performances and he played the baritone sax in the last one. I wish I had a picture because the bloody instrument is as tall as he is! He's doing a great job.</div>

Sam won second place in the district spelling bee and so moved on to the UP Regional spelling bee- I think this was in February. We drove to Neguanee for that and he got to take a day off school to participate (which I think was his main motivation). The winner of the regional bee went on to the National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. all expenses paid. It wasn't Sam. It was a young man from Calumet. Sam did a good job and stayed in quite a while but got stumped on Sarsaparilla which was funny because it was one of the words we practiced a lot because it is a silly word. ;)</div>

Somewhere in all of this we celebrated the holidays, and after all of this Lila started Drama practices for "The Sound of Music" which opens and closes this weekend. She is a singing nun, a neighbor of the Von Trapp Family, and one of a singing trio at the end. The best part is she has had some voice coaching for her singing (which is mostly in Latin). The worst part has been all of the 6-8 practices every evening for many straight days. The poor child is a glutton for punishment.</div>

Though, really, there hasn't been a whole lot to say.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3VmZN0ETLMTbiIyZROjUuc5Q6h2Pe1zCxkxZgL0rYZxfhdqDA3BuM45yMAUOFX1VkSaAdZ0Bg8jyit9ygMGcuQRmEv8a4A6UUUCdtyFj12B22haVAn_fEGsnv_rRBUoY2LhC4EVkXeCsh/s960/Photo%25252020150421135147604.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3VmZN0ETLMTbiIyZROjUuc5Q6h2Pe1zCxkxZgL0rYZxfhdqDA3BuM45yMAUOFX1VkSaAdZ0Bg8jyit9ygMGcuQRmEv8a4A6UUUCdtyFj12B22haVAn_fEGsnv_rRBUoY2LhC4EVkXeCsh/s500/Photo%25252020150421135147604.jpg" id="blogsy-1429638734270.2715" class="aligncenter" width="500" height="375" alt=""></a></div><p style="text-align: center;"> As you can see above, my work schedule has been rather sucky with many meetings and a few overnights away downstate the past month. The weather has been dismal as well....just when we finally broke fifty degrees last week, we went back down into the 30's and below with some solid precipitation in the form of the S-word. So, had I blogged you would all have suffered more of the driveling discontent you are hearing now. It has all been rather blah lately.</p><p style="text-align: center;">We did work up the enthusiasm to catch and change sheep suits on ten sheep this weekend and harvested the fiber from seven rabbits....with five more to go next weekend. I have a buyer for all of the fiber already; a lovely lady from Maine who spins it all into beautiful yarn. I need to get back to a knitting project to finish because I think I have found another one I want to start! :). I'm not a huge fan of UnFinished Objects (knitting UFO's) so will get my hands working to finish what I started first, which is a lacy red sweater like the cream one I knit for Lila. Below is the Bottom up beginning of a sleeve. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-exJkpuqJqD4/VTaOTOju-VI/AAAAAAAAD3c/8AwxKsT5_40/s942/Photo%25252020150421135147691.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-exJkpuqJqD4/VTaOTOju-VI/AAAAAAAAD3c/8AwxKsT5_40/s500/Photo%25252020150421135147691.jpg" id="blogsy-1429638734279.8125" class="aligncenter" width="500" height="666" alt=""></a></div><p style="text-align: center;"> Sam turns 12 next month which is rather startling! The weather was snowy, cold and miserable. Enough said about that.</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-NId1ip6xJoQ/VPOQXGfkd9I/AAAAAAAAD1c/Apgd7EKPj5A/s1024/Photo%252520Feb%25252025%25252C%2525202015%25252C%2525206%25253A43%252520PM.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-NId1ip6xJoQ/VPOQXGfkd9I/AAAAAAAAD1c/Apgd7EKPj5A/s500/Photo%252520Feb%25252025%25252C%2525202015%25252C%2525206%25253A43%252520PM.jpg" id="blogsy-1425248363586.6787" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="667"></a></div>
<p>I've been knitting and spinning and dyeing a bit. A sweater and a lovely lacy vest. The sweater went to Lila who admired it as it was knitted up and I've started one for me in a deep red. The sweater looks really mature on Lila which freaked me out a bit! I suppose it had to happen.</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-vBz3E-u98kM/VPOQarKe2wI/AAAAAAAAD1k/n125kcL0_C4/s1024/Photo%252520Feb%25252025%25252C%2525202015%25252C%2525206%25253A43%252520PM.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-vBz3E-u98kM/VPOQarKe2wI/AAAAAAAAD1k/n125kcL0_C4/s500/Photo%252520Feb%25252025%25252C%2525202015%25252C%2525206%25253A43%252520PM.jpg" id="blogsy-1425248363650.0369" class="aligncenter" width="500" height="667" alt=""></a></div>
<p> March has me hopeful that the weather will eventually turn. A long look off from that carefully tended fire at Yule. We are getting almost ten hours of light now and have had some lovely if not bitter cold days. Sunshine is soul warming.</p>
<p>March is a month of work meeting and likely six overnights away from home which I generally don't like much. This does mean though some knitting will be done in those lonely hotel rooms and some reading. I'm re- reading the Diana Gabaldon Outlander series (to warm one up during the cold months) and have four more books to go. We've been watching the series "Chuck" through Netflix which has been great fun! No expected baby animals this spring which is a bit more relaxing though also dull. :). Will live vicariously through my friends. I've added to the Doc Marten collection which is taking up a dangerous amount of floor space! :)</p>
<p>Chicken stir fry is on the stove. I spent $7 on a whole Amish chicken that we had baked yesterday. Cooked down the carcass and had 1/2 gallon of stock. A quart went into the freezer and the other quart is the base for a savory potato soup for tomorrows dinner. The left over chicken meat went into the stir fry for tonight....three meals from a $7 chicken! :). Makes me feel quite thrifty.</p>

Duncan is hoping Three Lakes goes the same route. Yes, that means we are getting more of the white stuff and the wind has been howling.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">I was supposed to take delivery on these today:</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-u6wxigeLBFY/VKnqScUJRcI/AAAAAAAADz0/S9szze1ggds/s960/Photo%252520Jan%2525202%25252C%2525202015%25252C%2525207%25253A49%252520AM.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-u6wxigeLBFY/VKnqScUJRcI/AAAAAAAADz0/S9szze1ggds/s500/Photo%252520Jan%2525202%25252C%2525202015%25252C%2525207%25253A49%252520AM.jpg" id="blogsy-1420421742098.5264" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="666"></a></div>
<p style="text-align: center;"> But they couldn't get here because of the weather! Eleven French Angora bunnies- two adults and nine 10 week old kits. I'm planning to keep a few and find homes for the rest....I've found homes for at least four already. I spent the past couple of days cleaning out the empty hutches and rearranging a few so they are ready to go. There are a few English Angoras out there that need haircuts but we are in for a week of weather where predicted the high temp is 12 degrees; too cold for haircuts. They will have to wait until the weather warms up into the twenties anyway. The new bunnies will be here sometime this week.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">I had hopes of changing sheep coats this weekend but it didn't quite happen. I did get out to visit with the oops/July lambs for awhile and took some pictures. Most of them are of the sheep in your face variety, but the shy ones had a few good pics. </p>

<p style="text-align: center;"> Rosebank is the lovely Emsket (blue-grey) ewe lamb born to Deja. Her brother Daftmill (remember we named them after single malt Scotch!) is quite friendly, though, a little, well...daft. I've been calling him Daft Wullie and it seems to fit! (Daft Wullie is a Nac Mac Feegle; if you don't know who the Nac Mac Feegle are, you need to find out straightaway!). </p>
<p style="text-align: center;"> Rosebank WANTS me to pet her...you can see it in her face. </p>

<p> Happy Winter Solstice!</p>
<p>We spent the entire daylight portion of today in the big city of Marquette finishing up our shopping for the holidays. Made it home just in time to light the Yule log before it the longest night officially began.</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-L_EzF7IKJbs/VJeY1Isd2DI/AAAAAAAADzc/C0adA_02y8Q/s1024/Photo%252520Dec%25252021%25252C%2525202014%25252C%25252012%25253A43%252520PM.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-L_EzF7IKJbs/VJeY1Isd2DI/AAAAAAAADzc/C0adA_02y8Q/s500/Photo%252520Dec%25252021%25252C%2525202014%25252C%25252012%25253A43%252520PM.jpg" id="blogsy-1419221206306.5696" class="aligncenter" width="500" height="667" alt=""></a></div>
<p> Whilst in Marquette, Lila celebrated her fourteenth birthday a couple of days early and added a couple of holes to her head. She looks pleased eh? One on each side. She already needs her hair trimmed so we'll have to do that during holiday vacation. Saturday evening we watched the Manistique High School Drama club perform "Alice in Wonderland". They did a fine job of it. Lila has joined middle school drama and they start meeting when school is back in session.</p>
<p> Since we haven't been home all weekend, nothing was wrapped, or made. I'm trying to figure out which projects I can ditch instead of trying to cram in more than is possible to do. No sense getting too crazy. :)</p>
<p>A wonderful surprise to us recently was that our dear friend Rachel Mills wrote and read a story about how our families met and of our Christmas Eve tradition that we've been observing these past 12 or so years. If you are so inclined, give it a listen! Rachel is a wonderful writer and has a lovely speaking voice. She perfectly captured each of our kids personalities in her story. http://wnmufm.org/post/mills-christmas</p>

Yesterday my favorite workgroup met and we shared a meal together in celebration of the winter solstice. I made Tourtière, Kristie made her famous AuGratin potatoes, Keith brought a delicious broccoli coleslaw, and Craig a crisp green salad.</p>
<div class="separator" style="text-align: center;clear: both; "><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-wuzMBZGHtto/VJTVj7XVMdI/AAAAAAAADzE/Tfd3k96h7j4/s960/Photo%252520Dec%25252018%25252C%2525202014%25252C%25252012%25253A30%252520PM.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-wuzMBZGHtto/VJTVj7XVMdI/AAAAAAAADzE/Tfd3k96h7j4/s500/Photo%252520Dec%25252018%25252C%2525202014%25252C%25252012%25253A30%252520PM.jpg" id="blogsy-1419040144072.337" class="" width="500" height="375" alt=""></a></div>
<p style="text-align: center;"> Tourtière is a traditional French Canadian meat pie primarily made of herbed and spiced ground pork. The delightful recipe that I used is from Canadian Living (http://www.canadianliving.com/food/cooking_school/tourtiere_recipe_and_instructions.php) and the addition of celery and mushrooms is genius. I will be making this recipe again for a gathering of the Ewe-per Spinners and Weavers tomorrow. </p>
<p style="text-align: center;"> At the end of our workgroup meeting we had a hand made holiday beverage exchange; I made Kahlua and Celtic Creme, Keith brought three types of his mead, and Craig four varieties of his home brew including a Scotch Ale! We will break into them soon in celebration of the Solstice, Lila's Birthday, Yule, Christmas Vacation, the turning of the mew year, etc... Oh Joy! </p>

Bought the Doc Marten 20 hole lace ups I wanted when I was in my twenties....two decades later. I checked with a few friends first to see if this was pathetic and was told a resounding no; though it may have been a biased sample. My favorite comment was "Like the Doc's! They say "I'm sexy and confident and I'm not afraid to kick your ass if you piss me off!" (They do kind of up the attitude quotient).</p>

<p style="text-align: center;"> I wore them once with jeans and a lacy black sweater to the office. Stunned a few folks and delighted a few more. My ankles were a bit sore after 12 hours constant wear but otherwise all was good! I think I'm going to pair these with the cable skirt next week which should be fun. Rounding off the evening listening to some Siouxsie and the Banshees on what is apparently a throwback Thursday. I could only find Sam's Pikachu ear buds and the sound quality is severely lacking but is perhaps compensated for by having two tiny yellow pokemans emerging from my ear canals. Damn! They might look good with the boots.....</p>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-ZTJzpA5pQU4/VHy1X_qkv8I/AAAAAAAADxs/J__ZnkZj0SI/s1024/Photo%252520Dec%2525201%25252C%2525202014%25252C%2525208%25253A40%252520AM.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-ZTJzpA5pQU4/VHy1X_qkv8I/AAAAAAAADxs/J__ZnkZj0SI/s500/Photo%252520Dec%2525201%25252C%2525202014%25252C%2525208%25253A40%252520AM.jpg" id="blogsy-1417459070938.4783" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="667"></a></div>
<p style="text-align: center;"> I'm quite pleased with how the cabling turned out and with the skirt in general. (Stand up straight next time!) Knitting this was a lot of fun and the only dull part was the ribbing!</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-y1YBRK0Y0zc/VHy1bcWgMJI/AAAAAAAADx0/YiNlAQWnZXg/s1024/Photo%252520Dec%2525201%25252C%2525202014%25252C%2525208%25253A41%252520AM.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-y1YBRK0Y0zc/VHy1bcWgMJI/AAAAAAAADx0/YiNlAQWnZXg/s500/Photo%252520Dec%2525201%25252C%2525202014%25252C%2525208%25253A41%252520AM.jpg" id="blogsy-1417459070988.8584" class="aligncenter" width="500" height="667" alt=""></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="text-align: center;clear: both; "><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-CQm9lnimSgw/VHy1fWGGfpI/AAAAAAAADx8/_XQKoBbMsQ4/s1024/Photo%252520Dec%2525201%25252C%2525202014%25252C%2525208%25253A39%252520AM.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-CQm9lnimSgw/VHy1fWGGfpI/AAAAAAAADx8/_XQKoBbMsQ4/s500/Photo%252520Dec%2525201%25252C%2525202014%25252C%2525208%25253A39%252520AM.jpg" id="blogsy-1417459070951.1812" class="" width="500" height="500" alt=""></a></div>
<p style="text-align: center;"> At Sara's recommendation I went down a needle size for the waist ribbing and shortened that portion by almost two inches. I think if I were to do it again, I'd go down yet another needle size because once the skirt is on and the ribbing stretches it seems like it could get a bit droopy. I've only worn it for five minutes so will be able to tell more once it is on for a day or evening. I do not have a skinny waist so it seems like those with a more svelte figure could have an issue with waist baggi-ness.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">Will be taking a brief interlude from knitting to do some more production spinning. I've been having take up issues with my wheel and I think it is related to how high my maiden was cranked when I put the new drive band on. I need to cut off the old drive band and crank her down and tie on a new one to see if that fixes the issue. Spinning can be frustrating if your wheel doesn't take in your spun fiber!</p>

In this case, it is true.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">Another fiber friend, who is also an animal fanatic, was interested in some of our alpacas. So, yesterday before the weather turned to rain and the snow to slush, we trailered six alpacas to Beth's farm. Star, Luna, Fiona, Ladybelle, Creme, and Cassidy are all living with Beth in her cozy barn with a litter of potbellied pigs, geese, ducks, bunnies and chickens. She has a nice barn setup and everyone has their own portion of the barn and the alpacas have access to outside.</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-5i4Zj11OOoc/VHIMV-d65kI/AAAAAAAADxU/Y2jmsE_aD0o/s1024/Photo%252520Nov%25252022%25252C%2525202014%25252C%2525202%25253A09%252520PM.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-5i4Zj11OOoc/VHIMV-d65kI/AAAAAAAADxU/Y2jmsE_aD0o/s500/Photo%252520Nov%25252022%25252C%2525202014%25252C%2525202%25253A09%252520PM.jpg" id="blogsy-1416760422789.253" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="375"></a></div>
<p style="text-align: center;">No Brainer because she obviously will provide them a good home (she was calling them her babies before we left), but hard because I have a great attachment to them. No Brainer because it eases the barn space and leaves that much more food to go around; hard because I will miss Creme's big eyes, Ladybelle's elegant self, Star's bumbling blindness, Luna watching out for her mother Star, Fiona'a inquisitiveness, and Cassidy's funny face. Cassidy was separated from her 18 month cria Poppy which was also hard to do but better for Cassidy because Poppy was still demanding to nurse. A no Brainer because if it doesn't work out at her place for any reason they will come back here. </p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-3InncTug8aA/VHIMZYFMADI/AAAAAAAADxc/obYCJIfJ6I8/s1024/Photo%252520Nov%25252022%25252C%2525202014%25252C%2525202%25253A09%252520PM.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-3InncTug8aA/VHIMZYFMADI/AAAAAAAADxc/obYCJIfJ6I8/s500/Photo%252520Nov%25252022%25252C%2525202014%25252C%2525202%25253A09%252520PM.jpg" id="blogsy-1416760422825.5754" class="aligncenter" width="500" height="375" alt=""></a></div>
<p style="text-align: center;">So what woolies are we left with you ask? A mere 13 alpacas, 2 llamas, 2 Babydoll sheep, and 25 Shetland Sheep. So we are not lacking for fiber here at all! I still feel a but sad though. :(</p>

<p style="text-align: center;"> I've discovered I'm a cable knitting fanatic!</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">Twelvish inches of snow on the ground at the farm. I worked last weekend at the Mackinac Bridge deer check station and while there it snowed twenty inches! And it is only November....(whimper whimper). Many people have much much more so I will try not to whine too much (or will at least keep it to myself).</p>

<p style="text-align: center;"> When Caol Ila and I had our picture taken last week, it was a cool but gloriously sunny day....</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-IAsok2_lTmE/VGOZzUAbVuI/AAAAAAAADwc/hR75x0vW-Mg/s960/Photo%252520Nov%25252011%25252C%2525202014%25252C%2525208%25253A10%252520AM.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-IAsok2_lTmE/VGOZzUAbVuI/AAAAAAAADwc/hR75x0vW-Mg/s500/Photo%252520Nov%25252011%25252C%2525202014%25252C%2525208%25253A10%252520AM.jpg" id="blogsy-1415813669661.4644" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="375"></a></div>
<p style="text-align: center;"> Now we have five or so inches of this crusty, crunchy white stuff. We lost power around seven last night but it came on around five this morning which was pleasant. This years lambs seem a bit confused and dismayed by the snow but are quickly adapting, because what else are they going to do? I, on the other hand, feel like rebelling already and it just started....not a good sign.</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XnZmVM3DUL0/VGOZ9OeTrsI/AAAAAAAADwk/ZfVzyhgD9o8/s1024/Photo%252520Nov%2525202%25252C%2525202014%25252C%2525207%25253A30%252520PM.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XnZmVM3DUL0/VGOZ9OeTrsI/AAAAAAAADwk/ZfVzyhgD9o8/s500/Photo%252520Nov%2525202%25252C%2525202014%25252C%2525207%25253A30%252520PM.jpg" id="blogsy-1415813669733.5874" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="375"></a></div>
<p style="text-align: center;"> So while the weather isn't overly pleasant, spending time indoors will be pleasantly productive. Spinning;</p>

<p style="text-align: center;"> I'm in love with it already! She is being knit up in Shepherd's Wool worsted weight merino on the color way Granite. Completion goal is my birthday. 70 rows to go! I think I can do it because it is complicated enough to make it fun but not so complicated to make it frustrating. :)</p>

The missing Mojo is mine. I haven't felt overly inspired to do any blogging as of late....not because stuff isn't happening but rather just a busy time both at home and work that has left me rather exhausted.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">So playing catch up: I finished my Allegro cardigan in Shepherd's Wool dark plum. I learned a lot whilst making the many mistakes knitting this piece. One is not to assume that knitting instructions are all inclusive. For example, one should not assume when a pattern says to "bind off" that you can bind of any old way you'd like too. My cardigan needed a stretchy bind off....but the instructions did not tell me this and I did not have the knitting experience to know this intuitively. I knit the shawl collar twice before asking for some help from an experienced knitter. I found this frustrating and put the bloody thing away for a month out of disgust and moved on to a new project; a knit along on Yarns at Yinhoo. </p>
<p style="text-align: center;">I knit a shawl called "Moon Oh Moon" in a little over a month. The yarn I bought from Halcyon Yarn when we were in Maine for Josie's memorial service. It is a fingering merino and hand dyed with Indigo on Swan's Island Maine. The contrasting trim was yarn from Josie's stash. Modeled by my favorite girl!</p>

<p style="text-align: center;"> This was my first lace knitting project and I'm pleased the way it turned out. Finishing this did give me the confidence to finish that bloody sweater! I then moved on to knitting a chevron lace and cable hat in that same plum color to use up the leftover yarn. I learned about lace knitting lifelines in this project and what a pain in the bum it is to un-knit lace and cable patterns. I found out I really like knitting cables, so now I'm working on a pair of cabled mittens in the same yarn. Meantime....I'm working on spinning some yarn I owe to folks for their CSA shares. I'm fitting the knitting into the spare moments and taking that to work for something to do at lunch. I'd love to take some sunny out door photos but...alas, sadly no sun. </p>

<p style="text-align: center;"> The animals are all well. We brought the alpacas home a couple of weeks ago so everyone is all in one spot again which make doing chores much easier. We will be moving the fat Wethers to the front paddock so they don't hog all the food this winter. They were repulsively overweight at shearing this year! The new chicks are just about the size of bantams now so I'm hoping we can get them moved into the coop with the rest of the fowl before the snow flies. I will take some updates pics of them this afternoon. Highs in the mid 30's....whoopee.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"> We did get some cider pressed this year, just last weekend at Dougette's. It turned out to be quite the party!</p>

<p> Halloween was a non-event...Lila was off at a friends house trick or treating and our usual visit to Dougette's didn't happen so we just went to the community center with the boys to the womens club party and then hit a few houses in town. The power was out when we got home, but came on shortly thereafter. Will and I shared a bottle of hard cider and I fell asleep watching the Big Bang theory after the boys went to bed. I'm such a party girl. ;)</p>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-7PsJuj7BMMQ/VDh6f_J_apI/AAAAAAAADto/z3I-SkeUPmc/s1024/Photo%252520Oct%25252010%25252C%2525202014%25252C%2525208%25253A14%252520PM.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-7PsJuj7BMMQ/VDh6f_J_apI/AAAAAAAADto/z3I-SkeUPmc/s500/Photo%252520Oct%25252010%25252C%2525202014%25252C%2525208%25253A14%252520PM.jpg" id="blogsy-1412987538915.4053" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="500" height="667"></a></div>
<p style="text-align: center;"> Pikachu with her two bad back knees had recently been only able to hobble on one leg; not a very comfortable thing coming into a long winter nor dignified for a lady of her stature.</p>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-6UUCNVPWuH0/VDh6h7F8s_I/AAAAAAAADtw/qs5vVbKj7F4/s320/Photo%252520Oct%25252010%25252C%2525202014%25252C%2525208%25253A23%252520PM.jpg" target="_blank" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-6UUCNVPWuH0/VDh6h7F8s_I/AAAAAAAADtw/qs5vVbKj7F4/s320/Photo%252520Oct%25252010%25252C%2525202014%25252C%2525208%25253A23%252520PM.jpg" id="blogsy-1412987538940.4702" class="aligncenter" alt="" width="320" height="240"></a></div>
<p style="text-align: center;"> Amey, who has always been terrifyingly thin from the moment we got her, I could no longer ask to try another winter. So, this morning some good friends came over to euthanize these two gentle and suffering creatures. They will be missed here very much.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">On a happier note, Pearl (one of the white Suri alpacas), went to live with my friend Donna. I think it is safe to say this is her first ride in the cab of a truck!</p>

<p style="text-align: center;"> We can only hope that this winter is a little kinder and gentler to us all and we will treasure the moments shared with our wooly and not so wooly friends.</p>

<p style="text-align: center;"> These photos were taken on Monday, which was bright and sunny and warm...summer finally.</p>

<p style="text-align: center;"> Some of the chicks have feathered legs on the outside shanks, some have bare legs, and some have extra toes!</p>

<p style="text-align: center;"> Based on wing growth rate and tail feathers I'd GUESS that five of the twelve are roosters.</p>

<p style="text-align: center;"> Many of them are going to be a pretty gray like their daddy. Since these photos were taken they have gained many more feathers and are getting a little crazy.</p>

Deer mice are supposed to stay outdoors, but they don't know about that rule and regularly make a house appearance. Add five house cats to the mix and life can get a little more exciting; for all of us.<br />
After a shower, and kitted up in my thick squishy robe and a turban like towel arrangement over my wet hair, I went into the kitchen to put on the tea water and start kid lunches. I immediately stumbled into a tableau involving three cats and a deer mouse looking slightly worse for wear. Now, I don't mind really if the cats catch and play with and ultimately kill mice but I don't enjoy watching it. Billy Bones caught him in his mouth and I decided this was my opportunity to catch the mouse in cupped hands and put it outside.<br />
This is where things began to go askew.....Billy dropped the mouse and before I could scoop it up, it scurried underneath me as I was poised over the cat. My bathrobe was touching the floor, and the mouse decided the quickest escape route was climbing up the back of my bathrobe (on the inside)! I remember thinking this was an interesting predicament, and before I knew it the wee beastie was perched on my left shoulder. Not wanting to be bit, I calmly walked to the back deck outside and dropped the robe....the mouse hurriedly escaped my presence and I had a bit of a laugh. Fortunately we don't have neighbors on that side of the house!<br />
